    • Burial: Jan 1832, Père-Lachaise Cem, Paris, Île-de-France, France

    Notes:

Jean-Joachim was Quartermaster General in the Armies of the French Revolution. He then worked in Paris in the Ministry of War during the Restoration from 1815 to 1824. In 1824 he was made 'Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur' and 'Chevalier du Mérite Militaire'.

In 1822 he received Christian Ignatius Latrobe and his son, Peter Latrobe, for two weeks after an exchange of letters which brought them to discover their common roots, (Michel Latrobe and Maffré Raymond). Because of his strong character as an avowed and touchy Protestant, Jean-Joachim never really showed warm feelings towards the royal power of which his family had so long suffered, so that in 1824, although he was still rather young (53), he was made to take compulsory retirement by Louis XVIII with a very small pension, quite insufficient to allow him to provide food for his numerous family. Therefore he could no longer stay in Paris and with his whole family he left to the family estate of Varennes which could provide them with very limited means for living. A few months later Louis XVIII died, but with his brother, Charles X, no change was to be expected for Jean-Joachim, in spite of several requests for a post that he addressed to the Ministry of War, .where he had so many friends.

In July 1830: the second Revolution and arrival of Louis-Philippe I, son of the Duke of Orléans, called Philippe-Egalité, a cousin of Louis XVI succumbed to the new ideas and a member of the Convention Nationale who had voted the King's death. Therefore Jean-Joachim had new hopes. He addressed new requests to his friends of the Ministry of War, and at the end of 1831 he succeeded in getting the post of Quartermaster of the Prytanée Militaire of La Flèche, a military academy situated between Le Mans and Angers and devoted to the education of officer's children and war orphans.

Then he left Varennes, alone, to reach his new post and there to prepare the accommodations for the arrival of his very large family. On his way to La Flèche he made a stop in Paris at his sister-in-law's, the L'Huillier family's house, to visit the Ministry of War and to get his last instructions. After lunch he felt dizzy with a sharp pain in an arm. Surrounded by his relatives, he died the next day, presumably from coronary thrombosis.

Fortunately, when he enjoyed spare time in Varennes, Jean-Joachim wrote a "Livre de Famille" also called "Livre de Raison" where he put in writing all that he knew about the story of the Latrobe family, and the story of his own life as well. His memoirs have been very important for family history.

He is listed in OneWorldTree as being born on the 21st of March, 1771 and married in Trêves, Germany. It lists all of the children.
