- In a letter dated 28 March 1833 from Charlotte Louisa Latrobe to Mary Elizabeth Hazlehurst Latrobe, she made a comment, "It was certainly providential that Joseph met with Washington Irving." Joseph is the name that Charles Joseph La Trobe was called. She signed with her last name spelled with one word - not two.
