Notes |
- Philip Thompson Jr. attended the University of Kentucky and entered the Confederate army at the age of 16. Admitted to the bar in 1866, he practiced at Harrodsburg, KY, and was city attorney, 1867-69, and Commonwealth Attorney, 1869-78. He was a member of Congress, 1879-85, and afterward practiced law in New York City and Washington, D.C. He and his twin brother John were wounded along with their father during a shoot out at a Harrodsburg, KY, courthouse on 26 Nov 1873. On 27 Apr 1883 he murdered Walter H. Davis, whom he accused of debauching his wife, but was later acquitted.
