Notes |
- Gregory Weldon Claiborne attended the Univ. of Virginia, 1856-57, and received an M.D. degree from the Univ. of the City of New York, 1859. He enlisted 19 Apr 1861 as a private in Company A, 12th Virginia Infantry, C.S.A. He was assigned as a regimental hospital steward, and on 1 Sep 1861 transferred to Company B, 13th Virginia Cavalry. He was promoted to captain, served as assistant surgeon under his brother Dr. John Herbert Claiborne at the military hospital in Petersburg, VA, and later transferred to the Confederate Navy where he served until the end of the Civil War.
