Notes |
- He was a student at Westminster School in London from 1740 to 1749. On 14 June 1750 he was admitted as a Pensioner at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was awarded a scholarship the following year, but gave up studies to marry and did not receive a degree. Apparently this was a hastily arranged marriage to the sister of his Cambridge school friend, Baker John Littlehales, who also failed to complete his degree.
He joined his father's meal business at Hurley or Marlow for a time.
William Sellon was ordained a deacon in 1756 and a priest in 1757. He was appointed Curate (and subsequently Vicar) of St. James, Clerkenwell, Middlesex. Over the next few decades he was appointed to other livings in London as he was a popular preacher, being referred to as "silver-tongued Sellon".
William Sellon inherited from his father a freehold at Henley-on-Thames, a tenement in Princes Street, St. James, Westminster, and the lease of Hurley Lock.
William Sellon was executor to his father's estate.
He was buried in a vault under the new church.
