Notes |
- John Francis Hamtramck Claiborne is known as the "father of Mississippi history." He was admitted to the Virginia bar in 1825 and served in the Mississippi House of Representatives, 1830-34. He was a member of Congress, 1835-38, and then was editor of the "Mississippi Free Trader." He moved to New Orleans, LA in 1844 where he was editor of the "Jeffersonian" and the "Louisiana Courier." In 1853 he was appointed U.S. timber agent for Louisiana and Mississippi.
