| Notes |
- John Breckinridge was a lawyer and politician of eminent standing, was a US Senator from Kentucky, 1801-1805, and Attorney-General of the United States in the Cabinet of President Thomas Jefferson from 1805 until his death. When quite young, he represented Botetourt Co., VA in the legislature. He is No. 4 in the Washington College Catalogue. The Biographical Encyclopedia of Kentucky states that when John Breckinridge emigrated from VA to Fayette County, KY, he named his home 'Cabell's Dale' in honor of his wife, Mary Hopkins Cabell. Genealogies of Kentucky Families from the Register of the Kentucky Historical Society states that Cabell's Dale is "down the Iron Works Road from the Russell Road and near the Mt. Horeb Church, now a part of Castleton Farm."
