Notes |
- He was living between 1553 and 1556 in Monbéqui.46 These dates are certain, but he
probably lived there before and after. From 1554 he was a farmer in Monbéqui. He died before 1580.
Pierre Latrobe Méro, (a nickname meaning sad or woeful), who was said to be a third brother of Pierre Latrobe (Garguy), was, therefore, a grandson of Pierre Latrobe and a great grandson of Jehan Latrobe, the miller. He might have had other nicknames such as Mecio and Meno. The first one could be related either to a specificity of his chin or to his general stature (tall and thin); the second one could derive from "minor" and would mean the youngest. Nevertheless, as they have a similar appearance, it is more probable that they just are sloppy and unreadable writing for Méro. Consequently we have considered that these three nicknames correspond to only one and same person, Pierre Latrobe (Méro).
Because of the similar appearance of these various nicknames (Mecio, Meno, Maurc or Meur or Méro, all of them starting with M) and as all the corresponding archives had been produced by the same notary, we have asked our archivist cousin, Michel de Lafon-Boutary, to carefully review again these archives in order to examine whether these nicknames correspond to only one or several persons. His answer was quite clear: all these nicknames should be ultimately read "Méro" and correspond to only one person.
As a consequence, we have considered that #35 (1553), #36 (1554), #39 (1556), #44 (1559) and #58 (1580), all archives produced by Jehan Latrobe, royal notary, Bertrand's father, are referring to the same Pierre Latrobe Mero, young brother of Pierre Latrobe Garguy, who seems to have been a farmer in Monbéqui, since he bought there several pieces of land, and who is shown as being already dead in 1580.
