Notes |
- James La Trobe was seventeen years old when he first went to Australia in 1851 as his Uncle Charles Joseph La Trobe's secretary. He went to New Zealand in 1857. At various times he was occupied as a sawyer, flax miller, storekeeper, farmer and school teacher. These were at different places around the country. Lastly he was at Raglan School from 1888 to 1903 when he retired to Cambridge, New Zealand. He was also a lay reader in the Anglican Church and conducted services in other churches.
Much of the information about this New Zealand branch of the family was received from Mr. and Mrs. Reginald La Trobe in a fax dated 26 Oct 1996 to Bernard Kirchner. This information has been added to what we already had from Pierre and Janine Latrobe and Pamela La Trobe. Additional information about this branch was received in Dec. 1996 from Sandra Roberts of New Zealand and in 1997 from Marie Beech (née Hill).
