Notes |
- John Marshall Claiborne mustered into Company D at Houston, TX on 7 Sep 1861. He was promoted to sergeant major by March 1862 and to adjutant on 31 Dec 1862. He indicates he was wounded three times, receiving one of these wounds to the arm or shoulder at Cassville, GA on 24 May 1864. He acted in "secret service" behind enemy lines in Tennessee from July 1864 until at least December 1864. In January 1865 Gen. Hood reportedly gave him a release and letters to President Davis and recommended him with commendation for Brigadier General. He is reported to have served as a general at Mumfordville, KY and Bentonville, NC. The 1880 Census states he was born in Texas.
