| Notes |
- Henry Richard Hazlehurst was baptized Richard Henry, but changed in early youth to Henry Richard which he preferred. He was brought to America in 1819 where he lived in Salem, New Jersey until 1831. He entered the Engineering Department of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and rose rapidly to the position of Division Engineer. In 1850 he formed the mechanical engineering firm of Murray and Hazlehurst in Baltimore which later became Hazlehurst and Company. He retired from business in 1868. He was a vestryman at St. John's Episcopal Church, Howard Co., MD for many years. In 1857 he built "Lilburn", his home near Ellicott City and lived there until his death. His birthplace was Hinton on the Thames River, about 20 miles from Oxford. There is a gravestone in St John's Cem with his birth and death dates but has the name Henry Howard Hazlehurst.
